AMAB (assigned male at birth)

Describes someone recorded as male when they were born. It is used to talk about birth sex without assuming gender identity.

Breast forms

Artificial breasts, usually silicone, worn in a bra or attached to the skin to create a feminine bust. They are sized to the bra band.

Chaser

Someone attracted specifically to crossdressers, sissies or trans women, sometimes in a way that focuses on the fantasy more than the person.

Cisgender

Describes someone whose gender identity matches the sex they were assigned at birth. The opposite of transgender.

Crossdresser

Someone who wears clothes associated with another gender. Most crossdressers identify with their birth sex. See the differences guide.

En femme

French for “as a woman.” Used to describe being dressed and presenting as feminine, as in “going out en femme.”

Feminization

The process of becoming more feminine in look, manner or role — through clothes, makeup, voice, movement or a partner’s encouragement.

Feminized husband

A married man whose feminine side is encouraged or led by his partner, often within a female-led relationship.

Femboy

A man, often young, with a soft, feminine style. Femboys usually identify as men.

FLR (female-led relationship)

A relationship in which the woman takes the lead in some or all decisions, by mutual agreement. The degree varies from couple to couple.

Gender identity

A person’s inner sense of their own gender — woman, man, both, neither or something else. It is separate from clothing and from who someone is attracted to.

Passing

Being read by strangers as the gender you are presenting. Many people find the goal unhelpful; looking and feeling like yourself matters more.

Pen name

A name you use instead of your legal name, online or in writing. Pen names are welcome on Sissy Life.

Shapewear

Underwear that shapes the body — waist cinchers, padded panties and hip pads — to create curves under clothes.

Sissy

Someone who embraces femininity in a deliberate, often playful way, sometimes as a role in a relationship. Once an insult, now a word many people choose for themselves. See What is a sissy?

Sissy maid

A sissy who enjoys the maid uniform and the role of keeping house.

Transgender

Describes someone whose gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. A trans woman is a woman.

Tucking

Arranging the genitals so the front of the body looks smooth under fitted clothes, often with a gaff or tight underwear.

Wig cap

A thin, stretchy cap worn under a wig to hold your hair flat and keep the wig secure.
