Louis van Gaal unconventionally demonstrated his appreciation of Denzel Dumfries following Holland’s win over the USA.
Dumfries provided an all-action performance as the former Manchester United manager’s side triumphed in their round of 16 tie, with the 26-year-old scoring late to seal victory.
Never one to shy away from his feelings, Van Gaal shared his admiration for the Inter Milan star with reporters following the victory.
It was the 26-year-old’s pass across the face of the USA box that assisted Memphis Depay’s opener after just 10 minutes in the first tie of the tournament’s knockout stages.
Dumfries again was the catalyst as the Dutch doubled their lead on the brink of the interval again providing the assist from the right-hand side, with Daley Blind connecting with the pass to give Van Gaal’s side the perfect ending to the first-half.
Chelsea had reportedly shown an interest in signing Dumfries this summer, with then-Blues boss Thomas Tuchel viewing the player as a possible option during the saga over Wesley Fofana’s move to Stamford Bridge.
